Writing Your First Blog Post

The first words are often the toughest. That's why many hopeful writers never get their stories told. The thought of having to overcome that blank space can be a tad too overwhelming for any individual.

That's why if the idea of posting your first ever weblog entry seems like a daunting task to you, don't worry about it. You're not alone.

In any case, here are some ideas to get you started with blogging:

1) Just write something. Anything, really. You can post something as simple as: "Hi! This is my first blog post. Let's see how this works." There really isn't any need to fret about it. Just get it over and done with. Once you get the hang of posting weblog entries, more blog writing ideas will follow.

If a "Hello, world" weblog entry is not good enough for your debut to the blogging world, then consider these:

2) Write a little something about yourself. A lot of weblog writing is personal. Even if you decide to keep a weblog about politics, food or computers, you're still sharing about things that interests you. So, this entry might help your readers to understand where you're coming from. Of course, you don't need to write your full life story. Just a couple of lines or so about your background should suffice.

3) Write about how and/or why you're starting a weblog. Exploring your motivation for blogging may give you the boost you need in this brand new endeavor. Who knows? Maybe a few entries down the line, this entry may even give you some insights on your blogging practice.

4) Pick a theme or topic that you're passionate about, then write about it. This may even be the theme or topic of your weblog. For example, if you decide to start a weblog about 'online gaming,' then get right down to the subject and make that your first weblog entry.

5) Post an image that you like and write about it. Even if you're not planning to keep a photo blog, a visual entry can be just the thing you need to break the blogging ice. Perhaps, you can post a picture that inspires or delights you; or maybe, something that makes you laugh or cry. Then, write a sentence or two that comes to mind when you look at this image.

6) Choose a meme/prompt/collab or a blog quiz to post. If you're interested in memes, prompts, collaborative projects, or blog quizzes, this is another simple way to come up with your first weblog entry.

7) Write a short letter to your readers. Although many weblogs are started as a means of self-expression, most bloggers soon realize that weblog writing often includes an audience (unless you keep your blog private). Making your first weblog entry a letter to your readers enable you to connect with them immediately.

There are other ways to get that first weblog entry out of the way. But, whatever way you choose, remember this basic rule: There's really no wrong or right way to write that first blog post. So, just get blogging!
