Podcast Factory Professional What You Need To Start A Podcast Show

If you're interested in making and delivering your own podcasts, then you must make sure that you are all geared up for it. Here are some things that you need to become a podcaster.

1) Computer Microphones/Headsets

Since the 'core' of podcasting is audio, then you must be able to digitize your voice in some way. Some laptops and computers do have built-in microphones and speakers that you can use. However, to improve sound quality and your general podcasting experience, you might like to think about using a better microphone or headset. Hint: USB headsets should make podcasting easier and more fun.

2) Sound Recording and Editing Software

Once you have the hardware to record sound, you must then have the right software. There are several audio recording and editing software available. Choose the one/s that will best suit your needs and your budget. Make sure to check the programs already available in your computer, as well as those that are available as free downloads. A popular free audio editor/mixer is .

3) Web Host for MP3 Files

You need to have the ability to post your audio recordings (MP3 files) online so that they may be accessible to the public. If you already have a web host with enough space, then you should have no problems. Otherwise, look for one that can hold a lot of large media files or find a service that offers media hosting.

4) A Working Weblog That Supports RSS Enclosures

Podcasts are delivered online via RSS, so it only makes sense that you have a weblog where you can post your MP3 files (podcasts). Static websites may work too, but many weblogging software will make your podcasting life a lot easier. Just make sure that the software you use supports RSS Enclosures. Otherwise, you might need to install additional plugins or make use of a third party service.

5) Podcast Receiver or Client

This may also be known as a RSS Feed or Web Feed Enclosure Reader or a 'podcatcher'. Although, technically, you don't need a podcast receiver or client to become a podcaster. However, you need one in order to subscribe and to listen to podcasts (yours and other podcasters' shows).

6) MP3 Player and/or Desktop/Laptop Media Player

Again, this tool is more connected to the act of listening to podcasts rather than for podcasting itself. In any case, whether you decide to listen to podcasts simply on your computer, on a portable MP3 player or both, you will definitely want one of these (if not both - and more).

7) Phone / Mobile Phone / Internet Telephony

Phones and mobile phones are actually optional when it comes to podcasting. They are only useful if you decide to use third party services that offer podcasting by phone. However, using an Internet telephony software like Skype might prove to be handy if you wish to use interviews and conference calls as part of your podcasts. A popular Internet telephony service among podcasters is Skype.
